Huge John Cena Match Being Discussed For His WWE Return
A new report reveals that John Cena could be headed for a clash with one of WWE’s current top stars.
On August 21st, WWE announced that John Cena would be making his return to the sports entertainment giant and would appear on the September 1st episode of SmackDown. In addition, it was announced that he would once again be stepping inside the squared circle on September 8th when the company presents Superstar Spectacle in India.
According to a press release soon after the initial announcement, Cena will also be returning to the blue brand on September 15th and will appear on seven consecutive episodes of SmackDown. Cena has been announced for the following dates:
- Friday, September 1 – Hershey, Pa. – The Giant Center
- Friday, September 15 – Denver – Ball Arena
- Friday, September 22 – Glendale, Ariz. – Desert Diamond Arena
- Friday, September 29 – Sacramento, Calif. – Golden 1 Center
- Friday, October 6 – St. Louis – Enterprise Center
- Friday, October 13 – Tulsa, Okla. – BOK Center
- Friday, October 20 – San Antonio – AT&T Center
- Friday, October 27 – Milwaukee – Fiserv Forum
It is also expected that Cena will be making an appearance on the upcoming Payback PLE on September 2nd, likely in a capacity as a guest host.
With so many appearances in the books for Cena, fans have begun wondering whether the 16-time World Champion will be involved in a program upon his return or whether he’ll simply be making appearances. Despite being advertised for the blue brand, a new report indicates that a match between John Cena and top Raw star Cody Rhodes has been discussed. WRKD Wrestling reports:

Cody Rhodes Asked John Cena For One More WWE Match
News of a match between the two men would no doubt please Cody Rhodes, who revealed during a Reddit AMA that he’d asked Cena for one more bout in WWE. Rhodes wrote:
“I asked John if he does one more…to consider that match. If not though, I’m blessed to have been under his learning tree and shared a ring with him in the past”
Though they haven’t found themselves together inside the squared circle since Cody Rhodes’ most recent WWE return, the two men are no strangers to one another, having shared the ring together as both teammates and opponents on many occasions between 2008 and 2015.
The most recent bout between Cena and Rhodes came on the April 6th, 2015 episode of Monday Night Raw. On that occasion, Rhodes (portraying his Stardust character) came up short against Cena in a United States Championship Open Challenge match.
