Jacob Fatu Addresses Reviving Dangerous “Sacred Move” In WWE
Jacob Fatu earned shocked reactions from his bloodline family members after performing a dangerous move in WWE.
Since the Raw episode after WrestleMania 42, Fatu has been involved in a feud with Roman Reigns. Commentators have accused him of starting a civil war by going after Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship.
Following their main event segment on the April 20 taping of the red brand, The Samoan Werewolf neutralized his 40-year-old cousin by applying the Tongan Death Grip to his throat.
The submission move, which was made famous by Fatu’s uncle Haku in WCW, had ceased to exist for more than a decade.
Jacob Fatu, deciding to revive the dreaded finisher, showed his desperation and the lengths he was willing to go to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
Jacob Fatu Discusses Reviving The Tongan Death Grip
Jacob Fatu is not shying away from discussing his use of the Tongan Death Grip on Roman Reigns on multiple occasions.
The former WWE United States Champion recently spoke on the No-Contest Wrestling podcast, where he discussed his ongoing feud with his cousin.
While discussing the Tongan Death Grip, the 34-year-old claimed that it was a revered move within his family and the Tongan culture, in general.
It’s a sacred move. It’s a legendary move. It’s a move to where you cannot change the name.
He also discussed the contributions of the Tongan side of Polynesian wrestling heritage, while some fans only focus on the Samoan wrestling dynasties.
We’re all Polynesian. They know about the Samoans, the Hawaiians. But when it comes to our Tongan brothers, our Tongan Island, you know, it’s different.
Jacob Fatu even discussed Haku’s reputation in the wrestling world and why the Tonga Death Grip was the talk of the town of late.
We’re talking about a man who is so loving, but take him the wrong way — the great Haku will put this thing, this Tongan death grip on you.
He then moved the topic to Roman Reigns, claiming that his cousin had survived nearly every offensive move thrown at him. So, it was time that he tasted something symbolic.
Roman Reigns has been through everything. Roman has been through everything — F5 through 10, man, he’s been through it all. It can’t be just the power. It can’t be just a drop on his head. It needs to be something that’s within the family. Something that’s within the family that could take all of us out. Not just him — it could take all of us out.
Fatu revealed that using the Tongan Death Grip was a part of the plan as he entered into the rivalry with Reigns.
So you had to bring something so sacred back. I had to. And it was the plan.
Look at the end of the day — the look on his face. Look how it looked every time he’s dropping down to his knees. Imagine everybody else that the great Haku had put this on to where they are no longer here no more.
At the end of the day, it’s working. At the end of the day, it’s tapped in. And at the end of the day, it don’t look like Roman can stop it. [H/T: Ringside News]
The bloodline members are scheduled to face each other at Backlash on May 9 in Tampa, Florida.
