Gunther Makes Shocking Confession About Ending John Cena’s WWE Career
Gunther has made a statement about retiring WWE legend John Cena.
Gunther made John Cena tap out to his vicious sleeper hold in December last year in front of a crowd that was shocked and disappointed by the result.
The Ring General received major heat for what he did, although more heat was directed at WWE CCO Triple H for deciding to end Cena’s retirement tour in this fashion.
Gunther, who had retired another legend, Bill Goldberg, last year, got labelled as The Career Killer by WWE, and in January this year at the Royal Rumble, retired yet another legendary star, AJ Styles, by defeating him in a match with a retirement stipulation.
The Career Killer is now headed to WrestleMania 42, where he is set to face Seth Rollins in a match that was announced a few weeks ago after he saved Paul Heyman from a potential attack by Rollins.
The reason for the attack was revealed on the latest episode of RAW when Rollins demanded answers from The Ring General, who said that it was because he is the best wrestler and not Seth Rollins, and that The Architect p*sses him off.
The former World Heavyweight Champion was recently speaking at a WWE Retrospective, in which he talked about retiring John Cena and called it one of the most meaningful accomplishments of his entire career.
Gunther Says Retiring John Cena Was Better Than Winning Titles
Although he has held multiple titles during his WWE run, Gunther says that retiring a resilient and iconic John Cena in front of an emotional crowd stands as one of the top moments of his career.
He acknowledged that people were frustrated with how his match with Cena ended, especially because he made The Champ tap out, something that effectively ended his Never Give Up mantra.
People were frustrated that this is how it ended… when you hear the reaction after the tapout, it’s just crazy.
He goes on to say that making the person who always said ‘Never Give Up’ finally give up was worth more than any title belt he could have won.
That’s the biggest achievement too where it’s like the guy that always said ‘Never give up,’ I can make him give up. That’s maybe worth more than any title you can win.
Gunther is on course to face Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 42 this weekend, and the brawl between the two superstars this past Monday on RAW built up the match and acted as a teaser.
