Gunther Faces Surprising Challenger At Night Of Champions

Gunther

Monday Night Raw saw a new number one contender for the Intercontinental Championship emerge and Gunther now knows who he’ll face at WWE Night of Champions.

Since winning the Intercontinental Title from Ricochet in June 2022, The Ring General has successfully defended his title against the likes of Shinsuke Nakamura, Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, Rey Mysterio, and most recently Xavier Woods.

On Raw in Greensboro, North Carolina, Gunther found out his next challenger for the gold with a huge battle royal taking place to find a new number one contender. In a story-heavy match that seemed to indicate that Dolph Ziggler will be engaged in a feud with NXT newcomer JD McDonagh, it was Mustafa Ali who survived 24 other stars to emerge victorious.

This will mark Ali’s first televised Intercontinental Title shot in WWE and his first title shot of any kind since he challenged Austin Theory for the US Title on Raw in December 2022. However, Gunther has been one of the more dominant Intercontinental Champions in recent years, and with the one-year anniversary coming just days after Night of Champions, it could be a rough night in Jeddah for the challenger.

The updated card for Night of Champions is –

  • Seth Rollins vs. AJ Styles – WWE World Heavyweight Championship
  • Brock Lesnar vs. Cody Rhodes
  • Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens (c) vs. Roman Reigns & Solo Sikoa – WWE Tag Team Championship
  • Gunther (c) vs. Mustafa Ali – Intercontinental Championship
