EC3 has discussed how Vince McMahon really didn’t care for those who came up from NXT, claiming he’d only watched one promo and then told him not to talk.
Having had an extremely successful run in IMPACT Wrestling including holding their World Championship, there was much excitement around the name of EC3 when he finally made the move to WWE in 2018.
Unfortunately the hype was not matched with what happened, with what could often be seen as questionable booking decisions around ‘The Top One Percent’ leading to a career which never hit the heights which were expected.
Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Shooting From The Hip podcast, EC3 discussed how it seemed people just looked at photos before deciding who earned a main roster call-up, and that Vince McMahon really didn’t seem to be interested in them.
But I definitely think there was a creative meeting. They needed six people, and they were just throwing 8x10s, pictures, and videos. ‘Sure, whatever, I don’t care. Ohh, she’s funny, this guy looks cool, this guy has muscle, let’s take him. Oh, this guy looks like a freak; that works.’ And when they looked over our stuff and every idea that a creative person has who’s familiar with the product, I don’t think Vince watched for over thirty seconds to a minute.
EC3 went on to discuss a promo the then WWE Chairman watched of his, and at that point he was told he wasn’t to talk.
I swear, this is the truth; he saw one promo I did; it wasn’t even like one of our professional shoots. It was me by the pool. And I think I was going like, ‘Victory after victory.’ It was kind of goofy and over-the-top, like you don’t have any common sense. It was coolish and awesome. He [Vince] saw it once, and he was like, ‘No, this guy needs to be a weatherman. He can’t talk with much enthusiasm. Actually, he shouldn’t even talk.’
Nobody even said, ‘Hey, Vince, he’s actually a decent enough speaker, he might be good there with a microphone and produce something with that.’ Nobody even bothered to say anything.
Since then EC3 has found home in the National Wrestling Alliance, whilst also forming Control Your Narrative although the recent tour for the promotion had to be cancelled after Braun Strowman returned to WWE.
