Drew McIntyre Breaks Silence On Scrapped John Cena WWE Retirement Tour Match

Drew McIntyre John Cena Promo WWE

Drew McIntyre is a strong example of ‘if it’s meant to be, it will happen’.

For a while, The Scottish Warrior seemed to have been overlooked by WWE. He worked hard, had an impeccable physique, and was popular with the crowd, yet he did not have the gold.

It’s only recently that McIntyre dethroned Cody Rhodes to secure the Undisputed WWE Championship, or as he says, he liberated the title from the hands of WWE’s golden boy.

However, there is one thing he had wanted which was scrapped, and now, he can never have that again. However, he has no regrets!

Drew McIntyre opens up about scrapped match against John Cena

The Scottish Warrior appeared on SHAK Wrestling, where he was asked about how he felt when the match against Never Seen 17 was scrapped. The Undisputed WWE Champion revealed that while he wanted that match very much, he had no control over creative and could not force John Cena to tweet his name.

However, as per him, it worked out for the best because today, John Cena is retired and Drew McIntyre is the world champion.

I can’t change the creative direction. I’ve talked about wanting a match with Cena — wanting that moment on the microphone with him — just to prove what I’m capable of. I want to compete with the best, and he is, or was, the best on the microphone.

I could sit there and say, ‘Damn, what if? What if he had tweeted my name?’ But the reality is he’s retired, and I’m world champion. So I think it worked out just fine for Drew McIntyre.

Did I know that was the original plan? I know enough. I keep my head down and I keep working no matter what happens. I can’t grab his phone and tell him to tweet my name. Who knows how butterfly effects work? But look where we’re sitting now. I think it panned out okay. Things happen the way they’re supposed to happen.
