Dominik Mysterio Wins Big At WWE-AAA Worlds Collide Thanks To Shocking Assist
Dominik Mysterio is the new AAA Grand Champion thanks to some help from somebody who is not in The Judgment Day.
The WWE Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio defeated El Hijo Del Vikingo to become the AAA Grand Champion at the WWE-AAA Worlds Collide event in Las Vegas. The AAA Grand Champion is the biggest singles championship in AAA, so it’s similar to the WWE Title or the World Title.
WWE-AAA Worlds Collide: Las Vegas aired on WWE’s YouTube channel for free in English and in Spanish immediately after SmackDown ended from 10 p.m. ET with a runtime of 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Even though El Hijo Del Vikingo is technically a babyface and Dominik is a heel, the fans were behind Mysterio with a lot of chanting and singing “Dirty, Dirty Dom” for the IC Champion.
Like most Dominik Mysterio matches, there was controversy. Dominik had help from The Judgment Day’s Finn Balor and JD McDonagh, but Dragon Lee and Rey Mysterio showed up to stop them, and they went fighting to the back. It should be noted that comments from Balor earlier in the night suggested The Judgment Day wouldn’t get involved, but heels lie.
Dominik put a white mask on during the final minutes of the match. Vikingo hit a spin kick, followed by a 630 Splash off the top turnbuckle, and he got a two count out of that because El Grande Americano pulled the referee, Eddie Orengo, out of the ring. Dominik dropkicked Vikingo, and he hit the 619 kick. Dominik hit a Frog Splash, but new referee Adrian Butler was slow to get to the ring, so Vikingo kicked out.
After Vikingo hit a Poison Rana on Dom, Vikingo tried to unmask El Grande Americano. The referee tried to stop that, so Americano tossed a metal piece to Dominik, who put it under his mask. The referee never saw that. When Vikingo turned around, Dominik hit a running headbutt with the loaded mask. Following up on that, Dominik went up top and hit a Frog Splash for the pinfall win, and the crowd cheered for the huge moment.
History has been made.

It was a history-making win for Mysterio since he’s the first wrestler to hold a WWE Championship at the same time as a AAA Championship. Obviously, that was hard to do before this year when WWE bought the AAA promotion this past April.
Dominik Mysterio Made His Father Put The AAA Grand Championship On Him
Earlier in the night, Dominik Mysterio interrupted an interview with his legendary father, WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, and said he wanted Rey to put the AAA Grand Championship around his waist if Dominik won it. Rey agreed.
After the match, Rey Mysterio went into the ring and wanted to hand the AAA Grand Championship to his son, Dominik, but Dominik insisted that his father put the title around his waist. That led Rey to reluctantly put the AAA World Mega Championship around his son Dominik’s waist. Dominik rudely told his father to leave, so Rey left. On commentary, heel announcer John Bradshaw Layfield pushed the story of Dominik calling Rey a “deadbeat” dad.
The Judgment Day’s Finn Balor, JD McDonagh, Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez celebrated with Dominik in the ring. El Grande Americano also hugged Dominik. The crowd was cheering for Dominik’s celebration. Dominik Mysterio continued to celebrate as he spoke into the camera, saying he was the King of the Luchadores.
