AEW star MJF recently provided an update on his future.

MJF is one of the top heels in the world of professional wrestling. He has gained a lot of traction ever since he signed with AEW. He even became the company’s best homegrown talent. Maxwell has been on an incredible run over the last few years.

He is a multi-time World Champion and is one of the biggest stars in the business at the moment. Maxwell was able to get over with the fans due to his in-ring and promo skills. Maxwell won his third World Title from Darby Allin at Double or Nothing. Since then, many other people have made it clear that they want a title shot. Maxwell successfully defended his title against RUSH on the 3rd June episode of Dynamite. Now, Mark Briscoe is after a title shot. However, the Salt of the Earth is making him earn it. Maxwell will team up with the Don Callis Family to face the team of Mark Briscoe, Konosuke Takeshita, Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Reilly, and Darby Allin at AEW Forbidden Door 2026. If Briscoe’s team wins, then he will earn a World Title shot against Maxwell. However, there is one problem for MJF. His knee was hurt after his match against RUSH.

AEW star MJF has provided a concerning update regarding his knee

During a recent appearance on Shut Up and Wrestle with Brian Solomon, MJF revealed that his knee is still hurting and he is in a lot of pain, but he has to show up since he is the top guy in the company.

“While you’re interviewing me right now, my knee is fed, you know what I mean? It’s swollen to sh*t. I’m in a sh*t ton of f**king pain. But it’s on me, because I’m the f**king top guy and people are leaning on me to make sure that we’re doing well. So I got to f**king lace my f**king boots up and get in that g*ddamn ring.”

Maxwell also said that while he’s in pain and his knee is swollen, he can still wrestle.

“And obviously, a doctor’s never going to let me go in there unless structurally I’m okay. So, don’t think I’m burying the AEW medical team. I’m in a lot of pain, there’s swelling. But structurally, I’m good.”

The Salt of the Earth also tried to make fans understand that wrestlers often put their bodies on the line for the sake of the fans’ entertainment.

“There is this new wrestling fandom of these younger kids that think this is all ‘funsies,’ and they don’t understand how much we’re putting on the line physically. Every time we go through the curtain, it takes a toll. Dude, I’m 30. I’m in pain and I’m only 30; I can’t imagine what I’m going to feel like when I’m 40 or 50.”

The AEW World Champion clarified that he is not looking for sympathy since it was his dream to become a wrestler, but he wants fans to understand the risk he takes every time he competes in the ring.

“I’m also not asking for sympathy. I’m not a b*tch. I signed up for this sh*t. This was my decision and my dream to chase. I just wish wrestling fans understood more that every time we go out there it’s painful. It hurts every time we take a bump, no matter what.” [H/T Ringside News]

It remains to be seen if MJF’s injury will result in him losing at AEW Forbidden Door 2026.
