Pro wrestling takes its toll on the body, both physically and mentally, so it’s perhaps no surprise that this high-profile AEW star almost walked away in 2021.

Heralded as one of the greatest tag teams of the modern era, FTR are currently in possession of three sets of Tag Team Championships from all around the globe. In home promotion AEW, they’re regularly producing stellar work. Despite their successes, Cash Wheeler almost left it all behind last July.

Speaking on the Walkway To Fight Club podcast, FTR discussed their wrestling journey, with Dax Harwood making the shocking revelation surrounding his partner:

“Cash tore his arm open and I watched him almost bleed out, and then at the same time I was going through this dark period of anxiety and I had no idea how to handle it. So we had to do a lot of soul searching within each other, but also with each other, to the point where, and I don’t think he minds if I tell you, but to the point where he wanted to quit last year.

I was bringing anxiety to work and then work was causing more anxiety. He said, ‘Look, if we’re gonna do this, we’re gonna have fun doing it. We’re not gonna let it mentally kill us and physically kill us. If we’re gonna do it let’s have fun, and if we’re not having fun, we’re not gonna do it’.”

The incident in question came from the 28 July 2021 broadcast of Dynamite. Cash Wheeler caught his arm on a turnbuckle hook, suffering a serious gash in the process.

FTR recently returned to AEW action for the first time in two months, teaming with Wardlow to defeat three enhancement talents on the latest Dynamite. They’ll team with ‘Mr Mayhem’ this weekend against Jay Lethal and The Motor City Machine Guns at All Out.
