A moment from WWE Monday Night RAW upset a lot of fans, and it wasn’t an accident by the company.

There was a grudge match on the March 3rd edition of WWE Monday Night Raw as Dragon Lee faced off against Gunther, the man who retired AJ Styles, who was Lee’s former tag team partner.

It was a competitive match, with Lee showing a lot of heart, but the dominant Gunther wore him down and countered Operation Dragon with the dreaded Sleeper hold.

As Gunther was trying to wear down Lee, Gunther ripped off Lee’s mask as he applied the Sleeper, so Lee tapped out quickly to give Gunther the win. The controversy comes into play because the ringside cameras showed Lee’s face after Gunther took the mask off. It wasn’t a close-up shot of Lee, but his face was still shown.

Lee’s face was shown on television, and the image was shared on social media, prompting arguments from fans who didn’t like that WWE did that to Lee. A wrestler who wears a mask does so because it’s part of their wrestling heritage, and they don’t want fans to see their faces.

WWE Claims What Happened On Raw Was Not An Accident

The Dragon Lee unmasking angle was used to generate heat on Gunther, but it also led fans to wonder if it was done on purpose.

Fightful Select reports that the controversy surrounding the Dragon Lee angle could be referenced on television in the future, according to WWE sources. Fightful added that there were no complaints from anybody involved in the segment. They were also told that if they didn’t want Lee’s face shown like that, it would be edited for social media.

It was also reiterated to Fightful that Gunther taking off Lee’s mask was not an accident, and that neither was the camera used to shoot it.
