Conflicting Reports On WWE WrestleMania Main Event

Rhea Ripley Charlotte Flair

With reports suggesting Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair will headline night one of WrestleMania 39, it appears that plans for that might not be confirmed after all.

Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns will main event the second night of WrestleMania 39 on April 2nd with Rhodes referencing that date on Raw several times and that has been the slot that Reigns has competed in for the last two WrestleMania events.

As for what will main event night one of WrestleMania 39 on April 1st, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that Charlotte Flair defending the Smackdown Women’s Title against Women’s Royal Rumble winner Rhea Ripley is expected to be in the main event spot.

“It appears to be official at this point that the two WrestleMania main events will be Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley on 4/1, which will also include Seth Rollins vs. Logan Paul, and Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes on 4/2.”

“We had reported weeks back that Reigns vs. Rhodes was the night two main event and that Flair vs. Ripley was favored to be the night one main event. When we had asked about Usos vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn headlining night one, since at the time Zayn was the company’s hottest babyface character, we were told that there were political reasons in play to where Flair vs. Ripley would most likely get that spot.”

However, things might not be as clear-cut according to a report from Fightful Select. That report noted that “several people who would typically be in the know” as well as associated talent have not yet been informed that the WrestleMania main event for night one has been set.

The political reasons referenced in the original report were said to simply be the fact that there wasn’t a women’s main event at the show in 2022 with Steve Austin and Kevin Owens as well as Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar headlining both nights.

The tag team match between Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and The Usos was at one point the planned main event and it has had plenty of support from within the company. It was also noted that there was no consideration for Bianca Belait and Asuka to main event either night of the event.
