Cody Rhodes Makes His WrestleMania Goals Clear After Royal Rumble Win

Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes has declared that his sights are firmly set on Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.

‘The American Nightmare’ earnt the right to battle the champion of his choosing in Philadelphia in April by becoming the first man in 26 years to win back to back Royal Rumble matches.

Immediately after his victory, sealed by last eliminating CM Punk, Rhodes gestured towards the luxury sky box in which Roman Reigns was seated. The pair, who headlined WrestleMania 39 last year in Los Angeles, exchanged heated words from a distance as the show drew to a close.

Speaking during the Royal Rumble Post-Show Press Conference, Rhodes reaffirmed that he intended to ‘finish the story’ and once again attempt to dethrone the reigning Undisputed WWE Universal Champion at WWE’s biggest Premium Live Event:

“I feel like everyone knew that, right? I’m very glad he decided to take the sky box seat. It could make it really clear where we’re at. All due respect in the world to Seth Rollins. That title gains more prestige every single day, but WrestleMania 39 did happen.

If you’re me, you can’t look at that and you can’t run from it. I want to be back in the ring with Roman Reigns and I want to finish the story.”

Cody Rhodes Vows To Keep Promise

Rhodes would also vow to keep his promise to pry the coveted title away from Reigns, whilst surprisingly highlighting that his famous ‘finish the story’ statement is one that he no longer enjoys using:

“I detest the statement now because, apparently, everyone has a story.

Punk wanted a story, Drew has a story, everyone has a story. A big part for me, I’m very big on keeping my word. If I say something silly on TV, but it’s a promise, I intend to keep the promise.

I don’t know if two times is the charm with Roman, we’ll see.”
