CM Punk Claims Recent Match Was “Most Perfect” He’s Had

CM Punk makes entrance

CM Punk has gone out on a limb by saying that one of his recent contests is probably the most perfect match he’s ever had.

Since putting pen to paper on a deal with AEW in August 2021, CM Punk has made it clear that this run is his love letter to professional wrestling. With that being said, a string of classic matches has been expected.

Harping back to the stars of yesteryear, Punk has shone the spotlight on the likes of Bret Hart, ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper and The 1-2-3 Kid during his bouts with his moveset and style.

On the 23rd March edition of AEW Dynamite, CM Punk defeated Dax Harwood in a match where both men threw their style back to ‘The Hitman’. Punk and FTR’s Harwood took the match down a more traditional route than is often seen on televised wrestling, with Harwood proving he could hang with one of the best singles wrestlers out there.

Speaking to ESPN’s Marc Raimondi ahead of Double Or Nothing on May 29th, has singled out that match as one of the greatest he’s ever had.

That’s the dragon I’m now chasing. I’m trying to replicate that feeling I had after that match. I never, ever say this, but to me that was the most perfect match I’ve probably ever had.

Having picked up victories over the likes of MJF, Darby Allin and Eddie Kingston, CM Punk will defend his undefeated record when he finally competes for the AEW World Championship at Double Or Nothing, where he will look to dethrone ‘Hangman’ Adam Page. Page has held the title since he defeated Kenny Omega at Full Gear in November 2021.
