Chris Jericho has compared one of his recent AEW rivals to a legendary WWE superstar by saying that Eddie Kingston and Randy Orton downplay how good they are professional wrestlers.

The rivalry between Jericho and Kingston led to an outstanding match that opened the AEW Revolution pay-per-view in March 2022. That was a match where Jericho took a dangerous bump on his head/neck early in the match because he felt like the story called for it.

Their story would continue as they were on opposite sides in the Blood & Guts match on the June 29th episode of Dynamite https://tjrwrestling.net/review/the-john-report-aew-dynamite-06-29-22/. Three weeks later on July 20th, Jericho defeated Kingston in a brutal “Barbed Wire Everywhere Death Match” that Jericho won thanks to an assist from Sammy Guevara.

During a recent appearance on the AEW Unrestricted podcast, Jericho compared Kingston to 14-time WWE World Champion Randy Orton. While Jericho noted they don’t have the same body type, they are similar in that they both downplay just how good they are:

“Eddie Kingston reminds me of Randy Orton and I’ll tell you the reason why. Polar opposites in image and gimmicks but neither one of them quite realize just how good they are. They kind of think it’s funny to kind of downplay themselves but they’re both so good and Eddie doesn’t quite get it yet and when he does, he’s gonna be a world champion. Not that he doesn’t now, but he still has an inner demon. I think those are going away because he realizes just how good he is. But I saw it from the start. So yeah, I’m a big fan of Eddie Kingston.”

The ROH World Champion Jericho remains a busy man that will be in tag team action on the October 5th edition of Dynamite as he teams up with Sammy Guevara against Daniel Garcia and Bryan Danielson. One week later on October 12th, Jericho will defend the ROH World Title against Danielson in Toronto (AEW’s first show in Canada), so Jericho will have the home country advantage.
