Charlotte Flair Addresses Possible WrestleMania 40 Match With Mercedes Moné

An old rivalry could be renewed one day if Charlotte Flair gets to wrestle Mercedes Moné again.

The careers of Charlotte Flair and Mercedes Moné (formerly known as Sasha Banks in WWE) will forever be linked. They started in WWE’s developmental system together, which led to a big rivalry in NXT.

Flair and Banks are also part of a group known as The Four Horsewomen of WWE along with Becky Lynch and Becky Lynch. They never competed regularly on TV as a group, but it’s a group name the fans are very aware of. Between them, they are among the most decorated and successful women in WWE history and all of them are future WWE Hall of Famers.

Moné moved on from WWE in May 2022 after walking out as a Women’s Tag Team Champion frustrated with her spot in the company. Earlier this year, Moné wrestled for NJPW and Stardom several times until an ankle injury sidelined her. Moné never signed a long-term contract with NJPW, though, so conceivably she could come back to WWE or work somewhere else some day.

In 2015 and 2016, Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks had one of the longest women’s rivalries in WWE history with numerous outstanding matches. They also were the first two women to headline a WWE PPV/PLE event when they had a Hell in a Cell match at Hell in a Cell 2016.

Charlotte Flair Talks WrestleMania 40 Opponents

While promoting WrestleMania 40 tickets being on sale for next April in Philadelphia, Charlotte Flair was asked by Sports Illustrated about possibly facing somebody like Mone/Banks, Becky Lynch or Bianca Belair. On the subject of Mone/Banks, Flair seemed intrigued by that idea.

“We’ll see what WrestleMania XL brings, but you know what’s crazy? Think of how much better we are now than we were then. We’ve both grown so much, you can’t even compare it to before.”

Charlotte Flair has wrestled Mone at WrestleMania in the past. It was WrestleMania 32 in 2016 when Flair beat both Banks & Lynch thanks to a bit of cheating by Charlotte’s legendary WWE Hall of Fame father Ric Flair. However, that was not a singles match, so the possibility of Flair facing Mone again in WWE certainly sounds interesting for WrestleMania 40 or any other time in the future.
