Andrade El Idolo Cryptically Teases AEW Exit

Andrade El Idolo makes his entrance at AEW Full Gear 2021

Despite many clamouring for this former WWE Superstar’s arrival in AEW, they’ve done little to justify staying and have instead teased their departure!

When news broke of Andrade El Idolo being granted his WWE release, it wasn’t difficult to figure out his next move – All Elite Wrestling. The 18-year veteran officially debuted in the Tony Khan-helmed organisation on the 4 June 2021 Dynamite.

Since signing, Andrade hasn’t done much of note. Rivalries with Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin are his key highlights, with his work now often restricted to multi-man brawls and AEW’s YouTube programming. Perhaps this is why, then, Andrade has teased leaving the company – #FreeElIdolo was the caption he used for a recent Twitter post.

Wrestling his debut match for AEW a month after first arriving, the former La Sombra defeated Matt Sydal but by the end of 2021 and into early 2022, Andrade was rarely on AEW’s flagship show. He’s yet to receive a one-on-one pay-per-view match either.

He’d previously spent six years with WWE, enjoying a run as United States Champion on the main roster, and an acclaimed NXT Championship reign in the black-and-gold brand. The latter of those saw Andrade wrestle Johnny Gargano in what was WWE’s first five-star-rated match since July 2011 – a difference of just over seven years.
