AEW Grand Slam Australia Kicks Off With Chaotic Jon Moxley Title Defense
AEW is hosting its yearly television special in Australia tonight as AEW Grand Slam emanates live from the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. The show is set to host some exciting matches, including three title matches.
The AEW World Championship will be on the line as MJF faces Brody King in a title match, while Jon Moxley defends his Continental Championship against Konosuke Takeshita.
The event kicked off with Moxley’s match against Takeshita after their factions had been at war for the last few weeks leading upto the event. The Death Riders emerged victorious over the Don Callis Family this past week on Dynamite.
Jon Moxley retains his AEW Continental Championship
The fight between Moxley and Takeshita turned brutal real fast as they both exchanged some hard blows with each other, with both of them putting their best foot forward.
Takeshita went close to winning the belt after he hit Mox with a big boot in the corner and followed it up with a Blue Thunder Bomb, but the champion kicked out before the three-count.

It was Moxley’s turn to come close to the win next as he looked for a count-out win, but Takeshita made it back just before ten before kicking out of a stomp from Moxley.
Both of them traded nearfalls in the final five minutes of the match as none of them gave way for anything. They were both completely spent by the time 30 seconds were remaining, and ultimately, the match ended in a time limit draw, which meant Moxley retained his championship.
