AEW Dynamite Preview – September 28, 2022

A closer at what AEW has advertised for the September 28th edition of Dynamite including a promo from Saraya, Chris Jericho defending the ROH World Title and more.

Before we get started looking at what AEW has planned for Dynamite tonight in Philadelphia, the biggest news story in the US today is that Hurricane Ian is likely going to cause a lot of damage in the Florida area and other parts of the country. That means some wrestlers aren’t going to be able to make it to Philly for Dynamite, which AEW’s Owner/President/General Manager Tony Khan addressed on Twitter.

We hope everybody in the path of Hurricane Ian is safe. We wish all the best to you and your loved ones.

AEW World Title Eliminator Match: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Juice Robinson

The AEW World Champion Jon Moxley will be in action against Juice Robinson from NJPW. Moxley won the AEW World Title in the main event of last week’s Dynamite when he beat his fellow Blackpool Combat Club teammate Bryan Danielson to capture the vacant title. The reason it’s called an “eliminator” match is that if Juice wins, he would get an AEW World Title match in the future. Moxley will be defending the AEW World Title against “Hangman” Adam Page on the special Tuesday edition of Dynamite on October 18th.

Juice is married to Toni Storm, who is also in action on Dynamite this week.

AEW Interim Women’s World Championship: Toni Storm (c) vs. Serena Deeb

From AEW: “After pinning Britt Baker to retain at Grand Slam, Toni will defend tonight vs. The Professor, who pinned Storm in a tag bout 2 weeks ago on TBS.” It sounds like a valid reason to have a title match since Serena is a top contender for the title. Serena was part of the women’s 4-way match last week on Dynamite for the Women’s Title, but now she’ll get her title opportunity in a singles match as well.

ROH World Championship: Chris Jericho (c) vs. Bandido

Chris Jericho won the AEW World Championship from Claudio Castagnoli last week on Dynamite using a low blow kick that the referee didn’t see. Jericho followed up with the Judas Effect elbow for the pinfall win. It was not an honorable way to win the championship from the promotion that has promoted “honor” for the last twenty years. Bandido may not be that well known to the entire AEW fanbase, but he is a former ROH World Champion that will get the first opportunity at Jericho’s title.

AEW is also advertising a “Championship Celebration” for Jericho and his group known as the Jericho Appreciation Society.

Saraya Will Speak

Last week on Dynamite, we saw Saraya make her surprising AEW debut. She didn’t get physical with any woman on the show, but she did scare them enough to force them to leave the ring. It is currently unknown if Saraya will be medically cleared to wrestle in an AEW ring since a recent report has suggested she has to be cleared by AEW’s top doctor. However, she may address that issue when she speaks in the AEW ring for the first time.

Saraya also jokingly tweeted about how to pronounce her name. We hope Excalibur and Taz were paying attention.

MJF Will Appear

There is not much to this other than AEW mentioning that the confident number one contender to the AEW World Title, MJF, is set to appear on Dynamite this week. MJF exchanged words with ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta last week, so it’s possible it could lead to a match between the two men.
