AEW Champion MJF Plans To Break Roman Reigns’ Record
MJF is enjoying his run as AEW champion, and he wants it to last for a very long time
MJF (Maxwell Jacob Friedman) won the AEW World Championship at AEW: World’s End in December 2025. He defeated Samoa Joe, Swerve Strickland, and Hangman Page to win the belt.
MJF has already defended his belt against Bandido and Alec Price in the 25 days since his reign began.
The ever cocky and confident Salt Of The Earth wants to hold on to the belt and be AEW’s top star for a long time.
MJF Says He Has Always Had An X On His Back
Speaking to Fightful and Down Under The Ring in a new interview, Friedman noted that he has always had an X mark on his back, and people were after him whether he had the title or not, and now that he does, he has a bigger target on his back.
You know, there’s always been an X on my back. There’s always been people trying to catch up to me. There’s always been haters. There’s always been people that desperately want my spot, whether I have the title or not. Now that I have the title, I’m not going to lie to you, there’s more people in line trying to get a piece of MJF than usual. Is my talent bigger than the mark on my back? I would say yes in droves.
Friedman then went on to say that he would like to hold on to the title for five or six years, a reign longer than one of the longest title reigns in wrestling history, like WWE’s Roman Reigns, who held the WWE Universal Championship for a record 1316 days.
I intend on holding this title — you know, I’m looking at five to six years. That’s the goal. I’m thinking five to six years. Five to six years sounds right to me.”
