AEW’s Backstage Stance On Ronda Rousey’s Controversial Debut
Ronda Rousey made her AEW debut at AEW Revolution 2026 on March 15. She showed up after Toni Storm defeated Marina Shafir in a singles match and confronted Storm before security intervened.
While some fans enjoyed seeing Rousey in All Elite Wrestling, others did not like her appearance at the event. Online fans on social media argued that Rousey’s presence downplayed Marina Shafir and took attention away from her, as she had already been feuding with Toni Storm for a while, compromising her position in the rivalry.
Rousey has been a deeply polarizing figure in the pro wrestling industry due to her past comments about the business, in which she claimed that pro wrestling is “fake fights for fun,” as well as her controversial WWE departure in 2023.
While there has been some fan backlash online following her AEW debut, a new report has revealed the backstage reaction to her appearance at Revolution.
Ronda Rousey’s AEW Debut Was Well Received Backstage
WrestleVotes, during a Q&A session on March 16, 2026, stated that Rousey’s appearance garnered no negative reaction backstage. AEW reportedly knew that her appearance would create a commotion and fully expected fans to react strongly online.
“They brought her in to elicit a reaction. The general interaction on social media is good enough for AEW. From a company standpoint, there’s no negative reaction to her showing up last night. There’s no backlash behind the scenes from anyone saying, ‘Why is she here? She’s taking my spot.’ That’s not the feeling in the room.”
