AEW Announces Return Of Owen Hart Cup

AEW Owen Hart Tournament Adam Cole Britt Baker

Following the success of 2022’s edition where AEW paid tribute to the late, great Owen Hart, Tony Khan has announced that the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament will be returning in 2023.

The tournament was announced in 2022 as a way of honoring Owen Hart’s legacy and contributions to the wrestling business while supporting the Owen Hart Foundation, led by Owen’s widow Dr. Martha Hart.

Men’s and women’s tournaments were announced and the finals were held at Double Or Nothing in 2022. Dr. Britt Baker DMD defeated Ruby Soho to win the women’s tournament and Adam Cole ensured there would be matching tournament winner belts in the Baker/Cole household when he defeated Samoa Joe to win the men’s competition.

Now Tony Khan has announced that the tournament is returning for 2023 and they will form a big part of the company’s Canadian summer tour. The finals of the tournaments will mark a homecoming of sorts as they will take place in Hart’s hometown of Calgary, Alberta, Canada at AEW’s House Rules event on July 15th.

The opening ceremonies for the tournaments will take place at Double Or Nothing at the end of May while matches in the tournament are also scheduled for Forbidden Door which could indicate NJPW’s involvement in the tournaments.
