Santos Escobar has re-signed with WWE.

The 41-year-old wrestler was reported to have quit the promotion after his contract expired at midnight of October 6. As a result, his profile on the company’s website was moved to the alumni page.

The Mexican star had taken to social media to confirm his exit by writing ‘PALANTE!!!,’ meaning ‘onward’ in Spanish.

After his departure, it was reported that Escobar was unhappy with the direction in which his character was headed or lack thereof.

At the time of contract negotiations, he was offered a pay rise; however, he declined it and asked for clarity in his character’s direction.

His exit also sparked rumors about him joining rival promotion, All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

Santos Escobar’s accomplishments in the company are not to be overlooked either. He is a former NXT Cruiserweight Champion, a belt he held for 321 days.

He was also the leader of Legado Del Fantasma, which witnessed multiple changes in its line-up over the five years of its existence.

He has had a WrestleMania match, when he teamed up with Dominik Mysterio at WrestleMania XL to face his father, Rey Mysterio, and his partner, Andrade.

Santos Escobar’s departure also signaled the end of the current Legado Del Fantasma; now that he’s back, it remains to be seen if the faction members get back together.

Santos Escobar’s U-Turn On WWE Departure

PWInsider has reported that Santos Escobar and WWE managed to reach a new agreement.

Not only does he now get a significantly higher pay, but the company officials also leaned into his plea of finding a direction for his on-screen character.

Escobar last wrestled at AAA x WWE Worlds Collide event in June, where he teamed up with Angel and Berto defeating El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., Pagano, and Psycho Clown. His last match on SmackDown was in May.
