Is Triple H Behind Chris Jericho’s Delayed WWE Return
Chris Jericho’s contract with All Elite Wrestling reportedly expired at the end of 2025, but he still hasn’t made a return to WWE.
Earlier this year, several reports suggested The Demo God had become a free agent, although he continued to appear on AEW’s official roster page, which only added to the confusion.
On a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer shared an update, noting that AEW may have quietly extended Jericho’s deal because he missed several months of in-ring action and television time.
Jericho is clearly done with AEW, given that he hasn’t appeared on AEW television since early 2025. So why hasn’t the WWE return happened yet? Personally, I think Triple H may be one of the main reasons behind the delay.
My Theory on Chris Jericho’s Delayed WWE Return
It’s well known that Tony Khan valued Chris Jericho highly in AEW and gave him a significant amount of creative freedom. Given Y2J’s experience and legacy, I think he would naturally expect something similar in WWE.
That’s where things might get complicated. Triple H may not be willing to hand over that level of creative control, even to someone of Jericho’s stature.
While there’s clearly mutual respect between both sides, creative authority could be the sticking point. Because of that, I think Chris Jericho may be intentionally dragging out his return, using time as leverage in negotiations.
WWE seems eager to bring him back, but Chris Jericho might be holding out to secure more creative input before committing to his next chapter.
The WWE veteran was heavily rumored to return at the Royal Rumble, but that moment never came. WWE is reportedly still hopeful he could show up at Elimination Chamber in Chicago on February 28 or at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas.
