Over the years, many stunning female stars have competed in WWE. One notable name was Sable, whom the former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon hired on the spot after meeting her during negotiations with her then-husband, Marc Mero, in the mid-1990s.

The beauty of other stars also drew significant attention, including WWE Hall of Famers Trish Stratus, Lita, Torrie Wilson, and Stacy Keibler. While the Stamford-based company has often embraced the good looks of its superstars, there were instances where executives felt certain female talent were too provocative for TV.

One former champion was instructed to tone down her sex appeal, while another was considered “too hot” for SmackDown.

Check out four female stars WWE considered too hot below:

#4. Former NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose

The Golden Goddess made it to the main roster in 2017, two years after signing with WWE following her participation in Tough Enough. She was initially a member of Paige’s Absolution faction, alongside Sonya Deville.

She later became part of other tag teams with Deville and Dana Brooke before moving back to NXT to form Toxic Attraction. In 2022, Rose was released from her contract.

During an episode of her Power Alphas podcast, the former NXT Women’s Champion revealed that Vince McMahon considered her “too sexy” during her early days on the main roster, and she was instructed to dial it down.

I don’t know if I ever told anyone this story, but when I first got to the main roster, I was like The Golden Goddess and the sexy one from Tough Enough and whatever. And I was told to like ‘Take it down a notch, you’re too sexy.’ So now, I’m going, ‘To be honest, I’m not even trying to be sexy.’ Cuz really I wasn’t. I just am.

I wasn’t trying. But then what do you think happened when they told me to take it down a notch, or I’m being too sexy? Because I was told you’re the sexy one whatever. The second I got told I’m being too sexy, I started all, you know, pulling back a little bit. But then it was looked like I was trying to be sexy cuz I wasn’t trying too hard. But then it almost looked fake.

#3. Ariel (Shelly Martinez)

While Mandy Rose spent nearly seven years in WWE, Shelly Martinez’s run in the Stamford-based company lasted two, with only one being on the main roster. During her stint, Martinez appeared on the ECW brand as Ariel, managing Kevin Thorn. She was let go in May 2007.

During an episode of her Too Much Information (TMI) podcast, Martinez recalled an incident with Stephanie McMahon where The Billion Dollar Princess called her out for having her behind hanging out of her outfit. The former WWE Diva noted that it was the only time anyone commented about her gear.

The only time anyone ever said anything about my outfit was when they decided to go PG and Stephanie (McMahon), I was in the locker room with the divas, and she was having a meeting with us, and she was like, ‘we can’t have your a*ses hanging out.

You know, Ariel, her a*s is always hanging out,’ and it was so interesting because I remember, I have told this story a lot of times, but some haven’t heard it. It seemed like everyone in the room was kind of like, ‘she is picking on Shelly,’ cause she was like, and then we can’t you know this, ‘like Ariel, she is always looking like she is going to pop out.’

She kept using her as an example, but every time she used me as an example, I thought she was absolutely right, yeah I got the memo because again no one ever said anything about the way I dressed ever, that was the only time anything, and then it was really cool because after the meeting was over, she said ‘I just wanted to tell everybody I am not picking on Ariel I just know she’ll handle it that’s why was using her as example.

#2. Former WWE Women’s Champion Candice Michelle

In 2004, WWE hired Candice Michelle and assigned her to the Monday Night RAW brand. While she was moved to SmackDown the following year, her run on the blue brand was brief as the former Women’s Champion was sent back to RAW less than two months later.

Michelle, who was released in 2009, recently opened up about her career in an interview with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, revealing that her return to RAW in August 2005 was due to being considered “too hot” for SmackDown.

Yes, that is true… SmackDown was rated PG and my character was not really very PG. I was too hot for SmackDown and I got shipped back to Raw.

#1. Scarlett Bordeaux

The 35-year-old had two stints in the Stamford-based company, mainly serving as a valet for her real-life husband, Karrion Kross. During her first run, Scarlett only appeared on NXT and was not called up to the main roster with Kross.

In a recent interview with WWE Hall of Famer D-Von Dudley on his podcast, Scarlett revealed that her character in NXT was not received well by many people, including women in the business, as she wanted to “bring sexy back to wrestling.” The Smokeshow even recalled being told by producers to cover her cleavage before going out in front of the crowd.

I think they were pushing the Women’s Revolution in the way they were. And my character was the exact opposite of that. It was a throwback. It was a parody, ‘bring sexy back to wrestling.’ Because all the girls were trying to be serious like the guys. I’m like, ‘No, no. Like, let’s just be a hot chick. Like, bring back bra and panties matches.’ And no one was doing that at the time. No one had their a**es out, everyone was — no one was doing it… and it pi**ed a lot of people off, including women in the business. But it’s funny, because now look where we are.

It was a great heel character… but it was very much the opposite of what they were pushing. I remember they were like, ‘Women’s Evolution.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, bra and panties match!” So I don’t know, I think that’s probably why.

Absolutely… They were originally pitching for me to manage other people before he was signed. So they’re like, ‘No, no, we think we want to go with this instead. We have a different idea.’ I won’t say who, but some of the producers every single time, like before going out there. They’d be like, ‘Can you just, ah, cover up the cleavage? Can you just pull that down?’ I’m like, ‘Okay, this is clearly not what we’re going for right now.’ [H/T: EWrestlingNews]

Scarlett was released in 2021. Although she returned the following year, she was let go again in 2025 after a three-year run on the main roster.
