Report: Brock Lesnar’s Next WWE Match Will Be at SummerSlam

TJR Wrestling

Brock Lesnar, the current WWE Universal Champion on the Raw brand, is expected to defend his title at SummerSlam in Barclays Center on August 19th according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer. Today is also Lesnar’s birthday – he turns 41 years old.

If Lesnar does defend the Universal Title at SummerSlam it would be Lesnar’s first time defending the title on television since April 27 at the Greatest Royal Rumble event. In that steel cage match, Lesnar barely escaped with the title when Roman Reigns hit him with a Spear, it broke through the cage and Lesnar laid on top of the cage while Reigns was on the floor first. It was announced that Lesnar was still the champion even though Reigns was really on the ground first. Since then, Reigns has compared about how it’s not fair.

Lesnar was not even mentioned on Raw this week even after his confrontation with UFC’s Daniel Cormier on Saturday. Apparently that was the call of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, who wanted Raw to focus on Extreme Rules this week. That was mentioned in the Wrestling Observer this week.

As for Lesnar’s UFC future, various reports in the last week noted that he would be eligible to compete in UFC again in January after re-entering the USADA drug testing protocol.

Who will Lesnar face at SummerSlam? We have no idea right now. It could be the winner of Roman Reigns vs. Bobby Lashley. Perhaps it will be Braun Strowman calling out Lesnar via the Money in the Bank contract. I would expect something to set the wheels in motion on next week’s Raw one night after Extreme Rules.

Lesnar’s current WWE Universal Championship reign is at 464 days and counting. Should it end at SummerSlam? I think so. We’ll find out together on August 19th.
