WWE News: John Cena vs. Kevin Owens Announced for Super Show-Down in Australia on Oct. 6

TJR Wrestling

It was announced on Friday that John Cena will face an old rival in Kevin Owens at the WWE Super Show-Down stadium show in Australia on October 6. The event will be shown live around the world on WWE Network. This is the second match announced for the show after The Undertaker vs. Triple “one last time” was announced earlier in the year.

Here’s more info from WWE.com on the match and the show.

One classic rivalry has already been renewed for WWE Super Show-Down in Melbourne, Australia. Now, it has been confirmed that the Melbourne Cricket Ground will play host to another.

John Cena and Kevin Owens will clash at the historic event on Saturday, Oct. 6, marking the first time the two have battled one-on-one since their thrilling three-match series in 2015. Owens, then the NXT Champion, made his mark at WWE Elimination Chamber by defeating then-United States Champion Cena in a Champion vs. Champion Match that was named one of WWE.com’s favorite matches of 2015. Cena evened the score in the second contest at WWE Money in the Bank and ended up taking the rubber match at WWE Battleground, in which The Cenation Leader’s United States Championship was at stake.

Cena and Owens join an event that has already includes The Undertaker battling Triple H for the very last time. Tickets for WWE Super Show-Down are available now via ticketek.com.au. Further information is available at tegdainty.com. The event will stream live on the award-winning WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view around the world.

This will be Cena’s first televised match since the Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia on April 27 when he beat Triple H in the opening match. Cena could return to television before this, but if he doesn’t then this is the first time we’ll see Cena in a ring in about five months.

Cena’s next match in a WWE ring will be on September 1 at a live event in Shanghai, China. That will not be televised. You can watch the video above for a promo from Cena.

TJR Thoughts: I think that’s a good choice for a Cena match in Australia. Cena and Owens have had plenty of great matches together. It would be nice if Cena returned to TV before Super Show-Down to try to promote the show a little bit, but it’s not known if he will. Cena has been in China filming a movie with Jackie Chan, so he’s had other non-WWE things keeping him busy.
