Steve Austin Explains Why Roman Reigns Needs To Be A Heel; Talks WWE Not Helping Cesaro

On the most recent edition of “The Steve Austin Show – Unleashed!” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin spoke about why he thinks Roman Reigns needs to be a heel. The former six-time WWF Champion also touched on Cesaro’s progress, stating that he thinks Cesaro will eventually find his spot at the top of the card despite not receiving much help from the WWE.

Austin’s thoughts on why he feels Reigns needs to turn heel:

“I think Roman needs to be a heel. Go through that journey and then evolve into a babyface. To me, it’s almost going to mirror what the Rock did. (WWE) brought him in as a white meat baby. People hated him and they wanted to hate him. And then, all of a sudden, the Rock started taking over the Nation of Domination. He was the alpha male in that group. All of a sudden, the promo skills come alive. The character comes alive. The personality comes alive and he turned into the most electrifying man in sports entertainment. Now, I don’t expect Roman Reigns to do that. I expect Roman Reigns to be Roman Reigns, but that’s the road that the Rock went down. I just think, organically, that’s the way it’s going to play out for Roman Reigns. Now, you can try to put him in that babyface spot, that number one spot, right now to see what happens and I’ll be very, very interested to see, if indeed, that’s what they do because I’m just waiting on the edge of my seat to see what happens.”

Austin’s feelings on Cesaro not being at the top of the card:

“I think the guy is just so damn good in the ring. I see eventually he will put all the pieces together, but (WWE is) not helping him any. He (has) got to put the pieces together to go up on top of the card. Cesaro, you have hopes for because he can do so much (and) he looks so good. He only speaks 17 languages! He can go all over the world and promote for (WWE), so there (has) got to be a way to get this guy figured in a little more and get his ass over.”

Mark’s reaction:

I would also really like to see a Reigns heel turn. It’s pretty much a guarantee that either Reigns or Ambrose will be turning heel soon, especially after the “we’ll always be brothers” line between the two after this week’s Raw went off the air. I’ll include this clip down below for those who haven’t seen it. I think the WWE’s desperately trying to figure out who’s going to be their next John Cena when it comes to having a face of the company. It definitely looks like Reigns has been the guy they’ve been prepping to take over that position. That’s the only reason why I don’t think they’d do a Reigns heel turn but Austin is right; the WWE really needs to think long term. Like Austin said, they did it with the Rock by turning him heel and he’s grown into being one of the most recognizable wrestlers in history. Rock and Reigns are both very different performers, but that idea of being a heel now to help him grow and to help the fans accept him more is still relevant. Plus, Ambrose is really over as a face. Yes he can play heel great, but it would be a bit of a shame if the WWE took the momentum he has with the crowd as a babyface away from him. Either way, I think Dean will knock however he’s booked out of the park; I’m not sure if I can say the same for Roman.

Regarding Cesaro, I agree that he definitely deserves a spot at the top of the card. I almost forgot he speaks 17 languages haha. Talk about an ambassador for the company! I really think it’s only a matter of time until Cesaro reaches the top. His incredible work every week is now getting to the point where it’s nearly impossible to ignore.

Do you guys think the WWE will ever trust Cesaro enough to have him as WWE Champion? Would you prefer to see Reigns or Ambrose turn heel? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
