Roman Reigns Comments on WWE Absence, Wanting to Return, His Health, Newborn Twins at Home, The Undertaker, More

TJR Wrestling

There have been a lot of reports about the absence of WWE’s “big dog” Roman Reigns since Roman removed himself from WrestleMania over a month ago. Due the current climate the world is in with the health crisis, there are a lot of unknowns that exist. As for Reigns, the former WWE and Universal Champion has battled and beaten leukemia twice in his life (including in late 2018), so there’s an understanding that if he wants to take a break from WWE then it makes sense.

There have also been reports that WWE might be upset at Reigns for not appearing on the Smackdown brand where he’s the biggest star and not wrestling Goldberg for the Universal Title at WrestleMania as advertised. It’s been over a month since WWE has mentioned him on WWE TV, he wasn’t part of WWE Make A Wish video that you would expect him to be in and this past Monday on Raw, Reigns wasn’t shown taking the pin when Seth Rollins won the WWE Title (via Money in the Bank cash-in) at WrestleMania 31. This past week, there also a Fox Sports 1 special about some of Roman’s greatest WWE matches. Is there heat? Probably not. A new report in the Wrestling Observer notes that there are times where WWE Chairman Vince McMahon might be upset that Reigns isn’t there for WWE, but then there are times when it’s a non-issue. In other words, nobody really knows. We’re not the kind of website to buy into some of the rumors that others might put out there to generate clicks. However, Reigns did help clear up some things for all of us.

In a new interview with TMZ with Reigns speaking on camera at home, Reigns confirmed that his wife recently gave birth to twins, which is why he decided to not wrestle at WrestleMania.

“We just had two newborn twins, twin boys. They’re 8 weeks old so I had to make a decision for them.”

There was an interview that was posted recently where Reigns mentioned his wife was pregnant. That was apparently taped late last year and his wife had the twin boys in early March. Reigns and his wife have a daughter and two more twin boys born in 2016, so the couple now has five children including two sets of twins. That means they a daughter, plus four boys and the boys are all twins just like his cousins The Usos. That’s a lot of work! Yesterday, Roman posted this photo on Instagram Live of some of his kids in the pool in Florida where they live.

Reigns also spoke about his own battle with leukemia while noting that he’s doing very well.

“A lot of people, they think that it was based off of my heath and the history of my fight against leukemia. Talking to my doctors and stuff, I actually am fine and my immune system is good. The drugs that I take to fight the leukemia, they don’t attack your immune system.”

“It’s my family, it’s my children, they are my legacy. No matter what I do in this world, my children are gonna be the ones to represent my name and carry our name forward. So I had to make that choice for them, to protect them being so young.”

Reigns also made it clear that he wants to be back in the WWE ring when the time is right.

At the end of the first interview posted by TMZ with Reigns (it’s posted below), you can see his twin sons born in 2016 showing up to see their daddy.

Reigns also talked about the WWE Network documentary called “The Last Ride” featuring The Undertaker. Reigns defeated The Undertaker in the main event of WrestleMania 33 in 2017 when a lot of people thought that would be it for The Undertaker, but that was not it. The Undertaker has continued. Reigns spoke about what it was like being in the ring with Undertaker that night in Orlando.

“It was unbelievable. During the moment I try to say that it was really windy, but if you do a closeup isolation shot in my eye, you can see me tearing up a bit because it was very emotional. Going into it, we kinda knew that he (The Undertaker) was getting closer to the end.”

Reigns noted that he didn’t know what Undertaker was going to do after the match.

“I had no clue about the ending and how he was going to lay his hat, gloves and jacket down. I had no clue about that.”

Reigns commented on what the day was like when he had to face The Undertaker in the WrestleMania 33 main event.

“It was a really emotional day. Just to be in that moment and see him do his entrance, it’s unlike anything, man. It gives you goosebumps just thinking about it. It is really a spectacle, it’s something that generations can say that they saw. It is on that level like a Babe Ruth, Joe Montana, Michael Jordan level because the consistency and just the longevity that he had to do it on a consistent basis – it’s unspoken for.”

TJR Thoughts: Good job by Roman doing this interview and providing some info on his situation. The rumors that exist paint him in a bad light, but he’s a great guy and I think it’s smart for him to speak out about his life. It’s also understanding that he doesn’t want to share things about his family. Some people like to go on Instagram and post daily pics or videos of their kids. If he doesn’t want to do that then that’s cool.

The unfortunate thing is that society is negative in a lot of ways, so they try to tear people down and make up stories just to get a few clicks. It’s lame, but that’s how it is.

The reality is we don’t know when Roman is coming back to WWE, but he wants to return when he feels like the time is right. That’s up to him and frankly, if people have a problem with that then they need to worry about their own lives more. He’s a grown man that can make his own decisions for his family. I have a lot of respect for Roman and I wish him, as well as his family, all the best.
