Report: Talks Within WWE About Having UFC Fighters In SummerSlam Segment

TJR Wrestling

It was officially announced during UFC 199 this past Saturday night that former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar will once again be fighting inside the octagon on July 9 at UFC 200 in Las Vegas. Lesnar’s opponent for UFC 200 was confirmed this morning to be veteran heavyweight Mark Hunt.

This was major news not only for the fact that it’s a huge UFC return on an already stacked card, but because Lesnar would be fighting for UFC while still being under contract to WWE. Lesnar has WWE’s approval and it was actually part of his contract that he was allowed to compete in UFC if he wanted to. You can read more details on that right here.

What this Lesnar news did was open the floodgates for speculation as to future WWE and UFC working arrangements. There’s a lot of talk as to what UFC fighter will show up in WWE now that Lesnar will be fighting at UFC 200. However, this could also just be a WWE returning the favor to UFC after Ronda Rousey was used in a prominent segment at WrestleMania 31 with The Rock, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

The most recent reports are stating that there are talks within WWE about getting some female UFC fighters to appear at SummerSlam this August in a segment with some of WWE’s female wrestlers. This is according to PWInsider Elite. The report also mentioned that one female UFC fighter that is specifically being discussed is Paige VanZant. WWE reportedly reached out to VanZant’s manager with whom they engaged in some discussion. However, it’s not yet known as to how far the talks between both parties got.

Paige Vanzant

Mark’s reaction: I think it would be a cool idea to incorporate the female UFC fighters in a segment with the female WWE Superstars, as long as it doesn’t take away from women like Becky Lynch, Paige, Natalya, etc. from getting to wrestle at SummerSlam. I mention those three only because I’m under the assumption that it’ll be Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks for the Women’s Title at SummerSlam.

I highly doubt UFC will let their fighters do anything too physical with WWE if the aforementioned segment does happen. Similar to Rousey at WrestleMania 31, maybe they put a quick hold on someone and tease a future confrontation. Again though, if this does happen, I’m more excited about what it means for the future than I am the actual segment.
