Big Xavier Woods Update Following The New Day’s WWE Departure
The New Day’s Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston parted ways with WWE on May 2.
Both wrestlers had an active career with the company for over 15 years, with many insiders believing that they were WWE lifers. So, it naturally came as a shock to everyone when the reports of their departure surfaced.
It was reported that the duo refused to sign restructured TKO-era deals, which apparently involved them taking a pay cut.
There has been a lot of interest from other wrestling promotions to sign them since then. While speaking on his podcast, Grilling JR, Hall of Famer Jim Ross was all praise for Kofi Kingston, whom he called a team player.
Ross also believed that it would not take him long to sign a new deal with another company.
Kofi has always been a great team player. He will not be out of work long. Lemme put it that way.
Future Of Xavier Woods’ YouTube Show Discussed
Through multiple tag team title wins, Xavier Woods became a household name along with Kofi Kingston. Following their WWE departure, both wrestlers dropped their on-screen names.
Other than his in-ring appearances, Woods is also known for running a YouTube account called UpUpDownDown, which is related to gaming.
On the channel, Xavier explores video games while also inviting fellow wrestlers for interviews and chats.
Recently, Tyler Breeze, who has worked closely with Woods on the UpUpDownDown channel, appeared on the Love Wrestling podcast, where he discussed the future of the channel.
While speaking about Woods, Breeze claimed that the former WWE superstar was taking time for himself, while also claiming that he was not the right person to discuss the business side of Woods’ life.
Yeah, I mean at the moment, he’s just chilling. You know what I mean? He’s been on the grind for a long time, and business stuff happens. It’s not really my place to talk on any of it.
Breeze also did not give any definite answer about the future of Xavier Woods, claiming that he was eagerly anticipating how his friend’s life shapes up in the near future.
So, you saw as much as I saw—where he’s at now, that’s kind of where we’re at. I’ll be waiting to see the headlines, just like everybody else. [H/T: Ringside News]
AEW Higher-Ups Being Pushed By Insiders To Sign New Day
Ever since the news of The New Day’s departure from WWE broke, several AEW wrestlers made an indirect reference to the faction on their respective social media accounts.
The likes of MJF, Young Bucks, and FTR threw their weight behind the former multi-time WWE Tag Team Champions.
Even Swerve Strickland and Bobby Lashley spoke during interviews about wanting Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston to join All Elite Wrestling.
Tony Khan has previously signed several wrestlers whose contracts either ended with the Stamford promotion or were let go.
Whether or not Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston land in AEW after their no-compete clause ends remains to be seen. Meanwhile, the Jacksonville-based company has a stacked tag team division, which includes teams like The Young Bucks, FTR, Cope & Cage, The Hurt Syndicate, and many more.
