WWE News: Rhodes-Rollins III Will Be Inside Hell in a Cell, Plus Raw Women’s Title Match Announced
The first two matches have been announced for WWE’s Hell in a Cell Premium Live Event on June 5th with Cody Rhodes and Seth “Freakin” Rollins facing off inside the ominous Hell in a Cell structure.
In addition to that, Bianca Belair will defend her Raw Women’s Title against Asuka at the Hell in a Cell PLE in Chicago.
The history between the two Raw superstars goes back to WrestleMania 38 when Cody Rhodes was a surprise opponent that Vince McMahon chose to face off against Rollins. They went on to have the best match of WrestleMania weekend, which was also one of the best matches in the careers of both men. Cody won clean.
After the WrestleMania match, Rollins claimed that it wasn’t fair that he was unable to prepare for Cody, who benefitted from knowing he would face Rollins. Cody accepted the rematch at WrestleMania Backlash two weeks ago. It was another great match between two of Raw’s best with Rollins going for a pinfall while grabbing the tights, Cody got out of that and then Cody managed to get the pinfall by grabbing the tights as payback for Rollins trying to cheat to win.
Last week on Raw, Rollins attacked Cody during Cody’s match against the US Champion Theory. Seth’s attack on Cody ended with Rollins delivering a devastating version of The Stomp on Cody on the top of the commentary table. Rollins was also screaming about how Cody took something away from him.
The third major televised match between Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins will take place inside the Hell in a Cell structure because last night on Raw, Cody challenged Rollins to the match. Rollins accepted it. Rhodes responded the only way he knew how: “I’ll see you in hell.” The Hell in a Cell match will likely be the end of the Rhodes-Rollins rivalry with WWE.com calling it “the conclusion of this epic trilogy.”
Rollins has been in four Hell in a Cell matches with only one victory against Dean Ambrose in 2014. Rollins has also lost to Kevin Owens and Edge, who defeated Rollins in an incredible match (the WWE Match of the Year in 2021 for a lot of fans) at Crown Jewel last year. Rollins also had was arguably the worst Hell in a Cell match in 2019 with “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt in a match that ended due to a match stoppage, so Rollins is 1-2-1 in his Hell in a Cell history.
Cody Rhodes is 0-1 in Hell in a Cell matches after losing a 2009 tag team match with Ted Dibiase against Degeneration X’s Triple H and Shawn Michaels. This will be Cody’s first time in a singles match inside Hell in a Cell.
Asuka earned herself a shot at the Raw Women’s Title by defeating Becky Lynch in the main event of Raw. The match was originally going to be a six-pack challenge involving Naomi, Sasha Banks, Doudrop and Nikki A-S-H in addition to Asuka and Lynch, but that was changed later in the night due to Sasha Banks & Naomi walking out of the building due to being unhappy with the creative direction given to them by WWE management.
The match between Asuka and Lynch was competitive with Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair watching at ringside. Lynch even tried to get Belair to attack her to give Lynch a disqualification victory to earn a title match against Belair, but Belair didn’t do that. Instead, Lynch tried to use Asuka’s umbrella as a weapon. However, Asuka was ready for it, which led to Asuka spitting the DREADED~! green mist in the eyes of Lynch and Asuka hit a roundhouse kick to Lynch’s head for the pinfall win. Lynch was freaking out about the loss while Asuka earned herself a shot at Belair’s Raw Women’s Title at the Hell in a Cell Premium Live Event.
You can watch WWE Hell in a Cell, streaming live Sunday, June 5, at 8 ET/5 PT on Peacock in the United States and on WWE Network everywhere else.
