WWE Hoping To Bring Major Legend Out Of Retirement For SummerSlam
WWE suffered a major setback at WrestleMania 42.
Night 2 of the Show of Shows opened with Oba Femi facing Brock Lesnar in a singles match.
The lead-up to the bout was one of the most exciting ones for wrestling fans, which saw The Ruler outclass The Beast Incarnate on multiple occasions.
On Sunday, Lesnar got an early advantage when he hit multiple German Suplexes on his 28-year-old opponent. He also hit an F5, which the Nigerian almost did not sell.
Femi retaliated with a chokeslam before hitting his Fall From Grace finisher for the victory. Femi looked as astounded as any fan in the Allegiant Stadium or viewer watching at home.
The victor celebrated as his 48-year-old opponent lay on the mat staring at the sky. Lesnar recuperated slowly as he sat. However, fans also saw him bawl his eyes out as he removed his gloves and shoes.
When his manager, Paul Heyman, entered the ring, Lesnar threw an X sign with his hands, signaling that it was his last match. Both of them hugged before The Beast thanked the fans and went backstage.
Reports later claimed that the WWE higher-ups had no idea about Lesnar’s retirement plans. They had even scheduled an appearance for him on the subsequent Raw episode, which had now gone down the drain.
WWE Hoping To Bring Back Brock Lesnar For SummerSlam
WWE SummerSlam will take place on August 1 & 2 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which is the hometown of Brock Lesnar.
Initial reports claimed that Lesnar would call it a day on his professional wrestling career at SummerSlam, but he threw a curveball at Triple H & Co. with his actions at WrestleMania 42.
While many in the company, including Triple H, believe that Lesnar has indeed retired, there is hope that they could bring him back for a final match in his home state.
A report shared during a recent WrestleVotes Radio taping detailed Lesnar’s situation and what the company intends to do with him in the near future.
There is a strong belief within WWE that Brock Lesnar was genuinely saying goodbye when he left his boots and gloves in the ring this past Sunday at WrestleMania. With those we spoke to believing Lesnar is ready to call it a career.
However, many also feel that before it’s all said and done, he will have one final match at this year’s SummerSlam. Lesnar, who attended the University of Minnesota and has been billed from Minneapolis, Minnesota throughout his entire WWE career, has only wrestled two televised matches in the state, with the last taking place in January of 2004. One contact told us the company is more than hopeful he will be on the card come August 1st and 2nd at U.S. Bank Stadium downtown Minneapolis. [H/T: Ringside News]
Before WrestleMania, Gunther shared a backstage segment with Paul Heyman, who thanked him for neutralizing Seth Rollins and said he owed him a huge favor. Gunther clarified that he would come to collect that favor at the opportune time.
Speculations also hint at Gunther using his favor as leverage to bring Lesnar back before SummerSlam.
