WWE Legend Received Backstage Heat After Tweet To Shane McMahon

WWE Legend Lana, aka CJ Perry, once got into trouble because of a tweet to Shane McMahon.

Perry, who signed a Legends contract with WWE in April 2025, recently appeared on the Ring The Belle podcast, where she recalled an incident that got her immense backstage heat.

CJ Perry Was Misunderstood By WWE Creative

Perry revealed that after a match with Naomi, she went online and tweeted a complaint to Shane McMahon (then general manager) like a true heel to garner heat. However, WWE creative misunderstood her tweet, and her decision was seen as a political maneuver, potentially aimed at swaying booking decisions.

She said:

“So, I went on Twitter, and I was just like always a heel on Twitter, which like guys, please understand, I was always a heel. That was not CJ — that was Lana going rogue. I just tweet, I’m like, ‘Hey WWE or Shane McMahon’ — I think he was our GM at the time — ‘Hey Shane McMahon, see her shoulder’s not down.’”

I wasn’t trying to get a rematch. I didn’t think they were going to give me a rematch for real. I was just being like the complainer Lana is. Creative didn’t like that. They thought I went into business for myself.”

Lana made sure to clarify the misunderstanding and even went to Vince McMahon to sort things out.

“I got a text from the head showrunner like, ‘You can’t do that.’ Vince thought you were doing it intentionally. I explained myself to Vince, of course. He’s like, ‘It’s fine. It’s fine. Just clear those things first.’”

A few days ago, CJ Perry announced that she’ll be making her return to the wrestling world. During her interview with Ring The Belle, she also revealed her pro wrestling goals ahead of her return.
