WWE Makes Change To Upcoming World Heavyweight Title Match

Seth Rollins WWE World Heavyweight Champion

It looks like Seth Rollins will face a different challenge to he originally thought when he steps in the ring this weekend.

The World’s Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden in New York City, will play host to the 7th July 2023 edition of Friday Night SmackDown. It’s always a spectacle when WWE heads to the iconic venue, and the company were quick to schedule WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins for a match.

The contest was originally announced in early June, with Rollins set to face off against Damian Priest. However, this listing has now changed and the official website for the arena now has a match with Finn Balor on the card.

This will be a rematch from Rollins and Balor doing battle at Money In The Bank, when Rollins was able to retain his belt following a miscommunication between Balor and Priest – the latter of which had won the signature men’s match earlier in the event, guaranteeing him a shot at a title of his choosing.

This has naturally led to speculation that the match at MSG has changed to ensure the pair are kept apart until a potential cash-in for the title. It could also indicate that Priest could be set to make his move tonight, after the match with Balor. However, there is no firm indication of this, or even whether the match will be televised or just for the live crowd in attendance, since it isn’t on the official WWE match listing for the blue brand’s show.

Announced for SmackDown are the trial of the Tribal Chief, Edge joining The Grayson Waller Effect, Austin Theory defending the United States Championship against Sheamus and Karrion Kross taking on AJ Styles.
