When Did Mercedes Mone Really Sign With AEW

Mercedes Mone

Mercedes Mone is All Elite and it seems she signed with AEW quite some time ago.

At AEW Dynamite Big Business, Mercedes Mone made her highly-anticipated debut for AEW in her hometown of Boston to a massive reception. Mone noted that she came to AEW as this was a place where the revolution in women’s wrestling could truly be global.

The night’s main event saw Willow Nightingale take on Riho and after Nightingale picked up the win she was attacked by TBS Champion Julia Hart and Skye Blue. However, Mercedes Mone put a stop to that as she made the save for Nightingale.

Mone had earlier acknowledged the history she had with Nightingale. Willow Nightingale defeated Mone in May 2023 when Mone suffered a serious ankle injury that has kept her out of action ever since.

Mercedes Mone Originally Planned For Earlier AEW Debut

Now Fightful Select has given more information about Mercedes Mone becoming All Elite. The report notes that when Mone appeared at AEW All In there was an understanding that the two sides would be working together in the future but injury meant Mone was still a long way from returning to the ring.

Discussions are believed to have collapsed at some point leaving Mercedes Mone negotiating with WWE about a return to the company where she was known as Sasha Banks. However, by the time WWE Day 1 took place at the start of January, the company made clear Mone would not be rejoining the company after all and they expected her to sign elsewhere imminently. And it seems that is what happened.

Talks are said to have taken place regarding an AEW debut for Mercedes Mone on either January 3rd or January 10th, 2024 meaning she was already signed by that point. However, with The CEO still not cleared to compete the decision was made to hold off and have her debut in her hometown of Boston at the Big Business edition of Dynamite.

Mercedes Mone had at least one WWE star in the crowd for her AEW debut as a former partner of the star showed their support.
