The Bella Twins Reportedly Threatened WWE Departure Unless Given TV Time

The Bella Twins

According to a new report, The Bella Twins threatened to leave WWE early in their careers unless they were put on TV.

Bringing something unique to the company by being a pair of identical twins, The Bella Twins went on to have extremely successful careers with WWE including being inducted in to the Hall Of Fame as part of the Class Of 2021.

However, according to former Freddie Prinze, Jr. on his Wrestling with Freddie podcast their lack of TV time early in their time with the organisation led to Brie Bella calling her father-in-law John Laurinaitis and demanding TV time, or the pair would leave.

He [WWE producer Michael Hayes] was the one that ran into the room when we were about to lose them. Because Brie Bella called John Laurinaitis and was like, ‘Look, our contracts are up. Put us on TV or we’re gone.’ John Laurinaitis calls Freebird [Hayes] and is like, ‘You gotta find a way to get the twins on television right now.’ Freebird runs in the writers’ room, he’s like, ‘We got twins! We gotta get them on TV!’

Freddie Prinze, Jr. went on to give credit to what The Bella Twins ended up doing in the wrestling world, not just in the ring but also when it came to their involvement in the reality series Total Divas and later Total Bellas.

I think The Bellas kinda blew up the women’s division, at least in WWE. Not to say there wasn’t women killing it all over the world in other promotions… When The Bellas came in there with that reality show, it genuinely changed the business.
