‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey looked to be heading towards a big singles match at WrestleMania 39 as SmackDown Women’s Champion in late 2022 but things quickly pivoted and it appears that Rousey was behind the change.

The 30th of December 2022 edition of SmackDown saw Charlotte Flair make her big return to WWE and she instantly reasserted herself as she issued an immediate challenge to Ronda Rousey and quickly defeated her to reclaim the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

WrestlingNewsPremium has reported now that Rousey was originally set for a huge WrestleMania 39 match against Royal Rumble winner Rhea Ripley. Ripley’s plans appear to have remained the same as she has challenged Charlotte Flair for the blue brand’s title.

The switch was made as Ronda Rousey pushed to be involved in the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship picture alongside her long-time friend and fellow MMA Four Horsewomen Shayna Baszler. Sources within WWE have noted the belief is that Rousey and Baszler will have a title reign over the summer. Rousey’s influence in WWE is also touted as the report reads “That’s the match that she wants and whatever she wants she gets.”

Becky Lynch and WWE Hall of Famer Lita recently captured the WWE Women’s Tag Team Title on Raw from IYO SKY and Dakota Kai in a match that saw Trish Stratus return to the company.
