Ronda Rousey Confirmed For Major Championship Match At WrestleMania 39

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey is expected to be part of a championship at WrestleMania 39 as she goes for some WWE gold that she hasn’t held before.

During her WWE career that started with her debut at the 2018 Royal Rumble, Ronda Rousey has been a major focus of the women’s division. She won the Raw Women’s Title at SummerSlam in August 2018 and held the title all the way until WrestleMania 35 in 2019 when she lost it to Becky Lynch in the main event that also included Charlotte Flair.

After taking three years off from WWE to have a baby girl, Rousey returned at the 2022 Royal Rumble. While she couldn’t win the Smackdown Women’s Title at WrestleMania 38, she managed to win that title for the first time from Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania Backlash in May 2022. After losing the championship to Liv Morgan via Money in the Bank cash-in, Rousey got it back in October at Extreme Rules.

There was a surprising Smackdown Women’s Title change on the December 30th, 2022 edition of Smackdown when Ronda Rousey lost the title in an impromptu 45-second match to a returning Charlotte Flair.

Despite being one of the top women in WWE, Ronda Rousey was kept off television in January and wasn’t even part of the Women’s Royal Rumble match that she won one year earlier.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that a Women’s Tag Team Title match is considered “locked in” for WrestleMania 39 with Rousey teaming up with her good friend Shayna Baszler against the Women’s Tag Team Champions from Damage CTRL, IYO SKY & Dakota Kai. WrestleMania 39 takes place on April 1st and 2nd at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

The potential Women’s Tag Team Championship match hasn’t been mentioned or promoted on television yet although with WrestleMania taking place in less than 60 days, the build should begin in late February or early March.

Shayna Baszler is not a stranger to the Women’s Tag Team Titles since she held them twice with Nia Jax for a combined 215 days.

Meanwhile, the team of SKY and Kai have held the titles for about three months now going back to Crown Jewel in November 2022.
