What Role Did Seth Rollins Have In WWE’s Mystery Attacker Storyline?
Seth Rollins is back in WWE after returning during the Men’s Elimination Chamber match.
The “Masked Man” mystery attacker storyline has been in play since Survivor Series, when a masked person attacked CM Punk in the WarGames match. The attacker used The Stomp that Seth Rollins uses as a finishing move, which led to Bron Breakker winning the WarGames Match.
In the weeks that followed, there were more Masked Man attacks until it was revealed that it was a returning Austin Theory. Due to his role in helping The Vision, Theory was welcomed into the group.
At the Royal Rumble in Riyadh, Bron Breakker was attacked by a Masked Man. The attack outside the ring led to Breakker being sent into the ring so that Oba Femi could easily eliminate Breakker from the Royal Rumble match.
On the final WWE SmackDown before Elimination Chamber, a masked man attacked Theory at ringside during Logan Paul’s match with Jacob Fatu. After the Masked Man superkicked Theory on the floor, Paul went after the Masked Man and punched him in the face. Paul pulled the mask off, and it was not a known wrestler. It was an indy wrestler named Don Furio.
While WWE didn’t say it on television, fans who read about wrestling online found out that Don Furio is an independent pro wrestler who trained at the Black and Brave Academy, owned by WWE’s Seth Rollins and Marek Brave.
Seth Rollins Selected Masked Man Portrayer On WWE SmackDown
During the Men’s Elimination Chamber Match in Chicago, there was a masked man at ringside. Security stopped him, and Raw GM Adam Pearce was there. Pearce unmasked the guy and wondered who the hell he was. It wasn’t a known wrestler on the roster. As Trick Williams was helped out of the ring after getting pinned, another hooded figure entered the ring with Paul. The masked guy kicked Paul in the ribs and hit The Stomp on him. Cody covered Logan and got the pinfall.
After Paul was eliminated, the masked man revealed himself to be…Seth Rollins. The fans popped big for the reveal. Paul Heyman freaked out at ringside as the fans sang Seth’s theme song, and Rollins left through the crowd.
It has been reported by Bodyslam that Rollins personally selected Furio to take part in the storyline to try to bring some realism to the story by having Rollins select somebody whom he personally knows.
Seth Rollins has been out of action since suffering a torn rotator cuff on his left shoulder and needing surgery to repair it.
There is optimism that Seth Rollins will be able to compete in a match at WrestleMania 42 against Paul, or perhaps a returning Bron Breakker. There will obviously be more to the story in the weeks ahead with WrestleMania 42 set to take place on April 18 & 19 in Las Vegas.
