Ric Flair Recalls Parting Conversation With Vince McMahon Ahead Of Release

Ric Flair

Ric Flair has recalled his parting conversation with Vince McMahon as he asked for his release from WWE.

The WWE Hall of Famer brought his most recent stint with the company to an end on August 3rd, due to his dissatisfaction with recent storylines. Namely, the story involving himself, his daughter Charlotte and Lacey Evans.

Upon leaving WWE, Ric Flair issued a statement to make it clear that there was no bad blood between himself and the company. Since departing, Flair has appeared in AAA in Mexico and most recently at NWA 73, where he cut an emotional promo thanking Vince McMahon among others.

Appearing on a recent episode of Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette, the 16-time World Champion recalled his final conversation with the WWE Chairman before leaving WWE.

“I talked to Vince after it was over and I just said, ‘Whatever paths our lives take us, we’re always gonna be brothers.’

He said, ‘You’re damn right.’”

At NWA 73, Trevor Murdoch finally defeated Nick Aldis to claim the the NWA Worlds Championship. Going into the match, Murdoch had promised to retire if he couldn’t vanquish the champion.

Reflecting on his victory, Murdoch revealed what Ric Flair told him after he came out to address the crowd. Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Murdoch recalled fighting back the tears.

“Well first, I didn’t even expect for Ric to come out like that. I was already doing my best to try and not cry, to be absolutely honest with you. And then when I saw Ric there, I was fighting back tears. One of the things I remember is I was emotional, and Ric said ‘you are the champion.’ I popped my head up and that kind of woke me up a little bit out of what was going on in the haze, that I finally did this.

And I’m standing in front of the greatest NWA World Champion in the Chase, and I just couldn’t believe it. There have been some pieces, I actually have to go back and watch it, because it was all just a whirlwind of emotions.”
