Kurt Angle Talks His Favourite John Cena Bout

John Cena and Kurt Angle

With the imminent return of John Cena to WWE, Kurt Angle has opened up on which contest between the pair was his favourite.

To mark the 20th anniversary of his WWE debut, the iconic John Cena will make a return to the company on the 27th June 2022 edition of Monday Night Raw taking place in Loredo, Texas. This will be his first appearance in a WWE ring since SummerSlam 2021.

Making his mark with some ruthless aggression, a young John Cena made his debut in WWE in 2002, heading to the ring to answer Olympic gold medallist Kurt Angle’s open challenge.

In a discussion with TV Insider, WWE Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle selected which match he had with John Cena over their respective careers stood out as the one he liked the most. Unsurprisingly, Angle chose the evening when he made Cena tap out.

I would say probably where I made him tap. I believe it may have been No Mercy2003. We had a really good match. John stayed with me and worked really hard. He hit all his moves. The match was magic and one of my favourite matches. All my favourite matches though are when I make someone tap out. [Laughs].

No Mercy 2003 is probably remembered by most for the I Quit match which took place between Vince McMahon and Stephanie McMahon. The event was headlined by a Biker’s Chain match for the WWE Championship, where Brock Lesnar successfully defended the title against The Undertaker.
