Kevin Nash Says WWE SummerSlam Offer Fell On “Deaf Ears”
Kevin Nash made WWE an offer for SummerSlam.
WWE SummerSlam recently took place in Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, and saw Roman Reigns retain his WWE Universal Championship and his title as Tribal Chief in a dramatic main event against Jey Uso.
The event also saw big wins for Cody Rhodes who finally earned the respect of Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins who retained his World Heavyweight Title over Finn Balor, and IYO SKY who cashed in her Money In The Bank contract against Bianca Belair to leave Detroit as WWE Women’s Champion.
What the event may have been lacking was a hometown hero but WWE could well have had one on hand at the biggest party of the summer according to Motor City native, Kevin Nash.
Speaking on his Kliq This podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer revealed that he asked WWE if he could be involved in some way with the event but never heard anything back:
“I asked if I could be involved. I asked if I could be the master of ceremonies of SummerSlam. I asked. Deaf ears, baby.
“Just being charming. Opening. I was hoping just something on the ramp. ‘Welcome to Detroit.’ I would have been great with a camera crew outside of Ford Field talking with the Detroit fans and the fans from around the world that came in.”
Kevin Nash has a chequered past at SummerSlam
Despite his long in-ring career, Kevin Nash has only competed at SummerSlam three times. The first of those occasions saw him lose the Intercontinental Title to a man that would define Nash’s career, Razor Ramon AKA Scott Hall in 1994.
One year later, Nash (as Diesel) successfully defended the WWE Championship against King Mabel in one of the most condemned main events in SummerSlam history. Following his spell in WCW, Nash returned to the event in 2003 where he was part of the Elimination Chamber bout for the World Heavyweight Championship won by Triple H.
Incredibly, Nash made his mark on the event in 2011 when he attacked CM Punk after Punk had defeated John Cena to become the Undisputed WWE Champion. That attack led to Alberto Del Rio cashing in his Money In The Bank contract and defeating Punk before the current AEW star embarked on an ill-fated feud with Nash.
