Kenny Omega Explains Why He Chose To Stay With AEW

Kenny Omega has given insight into why he has made the decision to sign a new deal with AEW.

Omega, along with the rest of The Elite, officially signed multi-year deals with the company on Wednesday August 2nd, which was first broken by Sports Illustrated. With speculation that the 4 former champions may follow Cody Rhodes in making the jump to WWE, all of The Elite have given their reasons why they wish to remain a key part of Tony Khan’s company.

Speaking with the publication, the former AEW World Champion outlined the mission statement when starting the new company, and feels like multiple wrestlers are now getting the recognition that they deserve:

“Our original goal was to create a wrestling alternative and give a platform to talented people that we’d all felt deserved a spotlight. I feel like we did our best in that time, and hopefully some people you’d never heard of pre-AEW are folks you enjoy watching today. Or if you knew them from their previous work elsewhere, have maybe found a new appreciation for them. That feeling, combined with the feeling of knowing they can provide for themselves and their family doing what they love, was always the biggest reward of being an EVP/founder.”

The Young Bucks and “Hangman” Adam Page all stated that the more family friendly schedule of All Elite Wrestling made it easy for them to sign new deals. Omega admitted that while he does not have a wife or kids, the creative freedom helped him make the decision to stay with the promotion:

“I can’t say that family or my kids influenced the decision to stay with AEW–I’m not married and without kids–but what I can say is that I’m incredibly proud of my match cataloge and the wonderful people I’ve met and continue to meet. AEW not only allows me to continue doing what I do at a high level, but allows the freedom to pursue some other passions I have in life–which, after nearly 25 years in the ring, have become more and more important to me.”

When Will Kenny Omega Wrestle Next?

Omega will team with The Young Bucks and compete on the celebratory 200th episode of AEW Dynamite. The Elite will face off against the team of Jay Lethal, Satnam Singh and Jeff Jarrett. With Omega now confirmed to be a part of the company for the foreseeable future, fans continue to speculate what part he will play at the All In event on August 27th. Fans may not have to wait much longer, as Tony Khan is due to announce the first matches imminently.
