Gable Steveson is no longer competing in the 2023 World Championships in freestyle wrestling.

The competition is due to take place between September 16th and 24th in Belgrade, Serbia. However, despite announcing his intention to compete only a few weeks ago on August 25th, Steveson has withdrawn his entry.

The 2020 Olympic Gold Medallist notified USA Wrestling of the decision on September 6th, less than two weeks before he was due to take part. There has been no reason given for why the star has pulled out.

Steveson previously returned to freestyle wrestling back in April, successfully winning the 2023 US Open. As per USA Wrestling, he then secured his position on the 2023 US Senior World Team with his victory in Final X in June.

He will be replaced in the 125kg position by Mason Parris, who is the No. 2 on the 2023-2024 US Senior Men’s Freestyle National Team.

The buzz around Gable Steveson has died down in WWE

After months of speculation on his pro wrestling career, Steveson made his in-rin debut at NXT Great American Bash where he faced Baron Corbin.

The debut didn’t go down well with fans as they booed Steveson and put their weight firmly behind Corbin. The bout ended in a No Contest when neither man could answer a 10-count. While this seemed to be designed to set up a rematch, it never came.

It was later reported there seemed to be little interest in the star backstage, with one source telling the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that “nobody is talking about him.”
