Female Ex-WWE Star Reveals Infamous Gear Was Bought From Stripper Store
Back in the day, WWE women were mostly used just as an attraction for the audience rather than being given significant in-ring time. As a result, the Divas had to spend a lot of time picking their outfits to look their best.
Popular Ruthless Aggression Era star Ariel (aka Shelly Martinez) portrayed a gothic, tarot-reading vampire valet for Kevin Thorn during her time in WWE. Speaking on her YouTube podcast, she revealed that her infamous outfit came from a stripper store.
Ques: What would you do to get your costume or your gear put together for a show?
Ariel: I would go to Hot Topic, or I’d go to Lake Avenue, or when I would be able to come to California, I would go to Hollywood Boulevard and stock up at the stripper stores, [laughter] the Hustler store. (From 6:10)
Since Ariel’s character demanded that she wear highly sexualized attire, Ariel explained that when WWE transitioned to a PG product, Stephanie McMahon called all the women in the locker room together for a meeting. During the discussion, Stephanie emphasized that the Divas needed to wear more appropriate clothing going forward.
Ex-WWE Star Ariel Clarifies Rumors About Stephanie McMahon Picking Up On Her
While making her point, Stephanie commented on Ariel’s outfit, which some later interpreted as her picking up on Ariel. Ariel clarified that Stephanie only used her as an example because she knew she could take the comment.
“She kept using her as an example, but every time she used me as an example, I though she was absolutely right, yeah I got the memo because again no one ever said anything about the way I dressed ever, that was the only time anything, and then it was really cool because after the meeting was over, she said ‘I just wanted to tell everybody I am not picking on Ariel I just know she’ll handle it that’s why was using her as example.’”
