Ex-WWE Writer Believes Jey Uso Is The “Star Of SmackDown Right Now”

Jey Uso has been on such a tear as of late that one longtime wrestling observer thinks that he, and not his cousin Roman Reigns, is the biggest star on SmackDown.

The storyline involving Roman Reigns, the Usos, Solo Sikoa, and the ongoing internal strife among them has been some of the most compelling and successful storytelling in WWE history.

It has become so popular that the July 7th edition of SmackDown, which included a long segment the Trial of Roman Reigns, was the first time that a wrestling show was the #1 show on cable and it was the first time in years that SmackDown drew 3 million viewers.

And while most people have credited Roman Reigns for being such a special star, at least one person thinks that Jey Uso deserves that credit more than his world champion cousin.

Freddie Prinze Jr. praises Jey Uso for his expressiveness and storytelling abilities

Speaking on his Wrestling with Freddie podcast, Prinze gave specific reasons why Jey Uso deserves more recognition for making SmackDown such an exciting show.

“We are going to go to ‘Friday Night SmackDown.’ Jey Uso is the star of this show right now. I said Jey Uso is the most over cat, and that was before he became the most over cat just because — I wasn’t the first one to call it.

Everybody saw where the story was going, but Jey’s ability to execute at such a high level and keep you interested — I’ve never seen a wrestler get cut to more when they’re not talking than Jey Uso.”

“Whoever he’s in a promo with, just know the camera’s not going to be on you but for a second. You could basically just walk out with your notes and just read them because this dude is pacing back and forth, letting you know every thought and emotion on his face.

It’s crazy, man. I don’t even know how to describe it because there’s no actor that does this. He’s just so freaking expressive and it’s not over the top. Or if it is, he’s so committed to it that it doesn’t play over the top.”

Jey Uso will be in his third PLE main-event match this Saturday at SummerSlam when he faces Roman Reigns in a Tribal Combat match for both the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and the title of “Tribal Chief”.
