WWE released Carlito in June 2025 after his contract expired. WWE decided to let him go instead of renewing his contract.

Following his departure, Carlito has been competing on the independent wrestling circuit. He recently had a match at GWF Strike First, Strike Hard 2026 in Berlin, Germany, where he lost the GWF Berlin Title to Ahura.

Following his loss, Carlito logged on to social media to share an Instagram story. Thanking all the fans for their love and support, he revealed that he is heading home to Puerto Rico but promised to return soon.

“Time to go home. Gracias. I’ll be back,” he wrote.

Carlito Wanted To Complete His Run With The Judgment Day In WWE

After getting let go by WWE, Carlito had an interview on Busted Open where he addressed his WWE departure. He admitted that he had been expecting the outcome.

He added that he felt disappointed by the way WWE abruptly pulled him from his storyline with The Judgment Day because he wanted to finish his story with the faction.

I wasn’t too surprised or too shocked [to be released]. I signed for 2 years, and it went better than I thought it would go. The only thing is, I’m a professional; they could have told me, and at least let me finish out the story for the Judgment Day so they can keep on going. It’s a disrespect to the fans that they just drop storylines.
