A former WWE Superstar has admitted that they “burned their own bridges” in the company and said that they wanted to be WWE Champion.

Raven joined WWE in 2000 after a previous run in the company in the early nineties where he was known as Johnny Polo. Following that run, the Raven character was born in ECW to great acclaim before he moved on to spend time in WCW at the height of the Monday Night Wars.

Raven only spent two and a half years in WWE, spending much of that time in the company’s hardcore division. The pinnacle of his run in the company came at WrestleMania 17 when he took on both Kane and The Big Show with the Hardcore Title on the line.

Speaking on a virtual signing for K&S Wrestlefest, Raven admitted that he had higher aspirations for himself during his time in Vince McMahon’s company but admits he shot himself in the foot:

“I would’ve liked to have been world champion in New York [WWE]. But you know, that’s a hell of a lot of politics. A lot of the heat’s my fault though because I had to be the smartest guy in the room. Even if I wasn’t, I had to act like I was so I burned my own bridges. I knew it back then but couldn’t help it.”

Raven later spent time in TNA and he was inducted into the IMPACT Wrestling Hall of Fame by his old rival Tommy Dreamer in October 2022.
