Ex-WWE Star Felt Like Stable Never Had Chance To Properly Thrive
A former WWE superstar believes there was a ceiling in terms of how far his stable could go in the company.
Ridge Holland was recently informed by WWE that his contract wouldn’t be renewed, even though he was out of action with a foot injury suffered in a TNA match.
Following news of his release, Holland chose to vent online, prompting WWE to terminate his contract early.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Ridge Holland has admitted regretting his decision to complain online, saying he felt like venting about the situation. As a married father of three, Holland admitted that life has been difficult, and that’s why he complained about his situation.
While speaking in the same YouTube video that covered many things from his career, Ridge Holland (real name Luke Menzies) discussed his SmackDown run as part of the Brawling Brutes group with the veteran Sheamus and Butch, who is better known as Pete Dunne.
The Brawling Brutes were formed in November 2021 and lasted for about two years, and Butch returned to the Pete Dunne name. They didn’t hold any titles as a group. The former Ridge Holland thought it was a good thing to be paired with Sheamus.
“The funny thing was, I never really established myself in NXT. I never really had a character, so there was no reference point on the creative team on how to book me.
“So I got put with Sheamus which was a massive rub, but as a character and as a performer, I didn’t know myself, so it was tough to try and find something to portray on camera, because I’d not had the reps and I’d not really found myself as a performer, and it was hard to connect.”
The Brawling Brutes Were With Sheamus To Take Bumps For The WWE Legend
As he continued, the former Ridge Holland made the point that it felt like the group was just there to help Sheamus in his feuds and storylines while essentially taking bumps for him.
“Pete Dunne joined us and Pete’s a good friend of mine, best wrestler in the world and he helped me immensely, and we were the Brawling Brutes and had some great times travelling the world wrestling the Usos, wrestling at WrestleMania, Saudi Arabia, it was decent.
Though I always felt like there was a ceiling there. Sheamus was the priority and I feel like we were there to take bumps for him but whatever, that’s what they wanted, that’s what we did.”
Since the Brawling Brutes never held any titles as a team, Holland’s claim they had a ceiling could be seen as a valid point.
Elsewhere in the video, Ridge Holland spoke about the sadness he feels about ending Big E’s WWE career by doing a dangerous move in a match over three years ago.
