Chelsea Green Issues Two-Word Statement After WWE Title Loss
January 2, 2026, was a day of mixed emotions for Chelsea Green.
What started on a positive note due to her husband, Matt Cardona’s return to WWE, later ended in a title loss for her.
Earlier in the night, Green tried backing out of her Women’s United States Championship title defense against Giulia. She agreed only after being threatened by general manager Nick Aldis of stripping her of the title.
Soon after, Cardona walked out as Kit Wilson’s mystery opponent, with the commentators confirming that he had signed with the company and was an official member of SmackDown.
The 40-year-old made light work of the Brit, defeating him in under 5 minutes. After the match, the former Intercontinental Champion addressed his return in a lengthy social media post.
Cardona recalled his journey since departing WWE in 2020 after a 14-year stint. He wrote about reinventing himself in the independent circuit, where he earned the moniker of ‘Indy God.’
He also claimed that his journey was not over, teasing an exciting road ahead.
Chelsea Green Loses The Women’s United States Championship
On the November 7 edition of SmackDown, Chelsea Green got a cheap win over Giulia to become a 2-time Women’s United States Champion.
Since then, both women crossed paths several times, with a return match finalized between them on the first SmackDown episode of 2026.
The Canadian superstar found herself on the defensive for most of the bout, with Giulia intent on reclaiming her lost glory.
In the closing minutes, Chelsea Green hit her Japanese opponent with her husband’s finisher, Rough Ryder, but Giulia’s associate, Kiana James, distracted the referee.
Giulia retaliated by hitting a double underhook slam from the top rope and followed it up with a Northern Lights Bomb for the win.
Chelsea Green then took to X, posting a couple of photos of herself as the champion, and captioned it “diva down,” which is a reference to Green seeing herself as a diva.
